Thursday, March 19th (Noon)
Our elders, staff, and community group leaders have all been thinking creatively and working hard to create some ways for us to learn, sing, pray, and relate during these strange times. We all know that we are all adjusting to new rhythms and patterns. Please know that just because we are doing all these things, you don't have to participate in all of them. Just jump into the things that work for you and will minister to your soul. We aren't here to add to the list of things you feel guilty about doing or not doing during this time.
During this time we will be taking advantage of three video platforms:
Facebook Live - this is what we used to stream the service this past week and is pretty simple
YouTube Live - very similar to Facebook Live but on YouTube (for those who aren't on Facebook)
Zoom - this is a video chat platform for doing calls with a large group of people (more than what works well on FaceTime, Skype, or Google Hangouts)
Weekly Video Resources
Main Worship Service - Sundays at 10:30am
Weekly Q&A with Jim on Zoom - Tuesdays at noon
Weekly Acoustic Music Session with Matt on Facebook Live - Thursdays at noon
Coronavirus Updates - this will include the weekly relevant updates for OGC
Coronavirus Help - if you NEED help OR you can PROVIDE help take 2 minutes and tell us (Sunday will take this information and as best as possible connect people with needs with people who can help)
We have left it up to Community Groups to decide for themselves how they would like to proceed during this time. Please communicate directly with your Community Group leaders to see what you group is doing. We have created a vehicle through which your groups can meet via video chat.
We will be sending out a kid's lesson for parents to use with your children. This will be based off of the Gospel Project curriculum (which we usually use for GraceKids) and will include a video Bible story and a lesson plan for you to use with your family. Feel free to use this as a part of your Sunday morning family worship time or at some other point during the week. Check your email on Saturday for the lesson.
Weekly devotionals will be emailed to the parents of students.
We will try to leave you one good missional idea per week as we come across them. This weeks idea is very simple - leave a note with your elderly or otherwise at-risk neighbor introducing yourself with your contact info and let them know if they have any basic needs or prayer requests that they can contact you.
If you have prayer needs email them to email@example.com
How to View the Sunday Livestream
Lord willing we will have livestream up on both Facebook Live and YouTube Live. We suggest watching either stream on your TV as it should show better than your phone (but phone's are okay too). Each person's setup is going to be different but most folks probably have a smart tv, apple tv, roku, chromecast, or other device that allows you to view or screenshare. You can test this out anytime you want.
Please don't forget us in the midst of all the chaos as we heavily rely on your giving. There are two primary ways to give:
Snail Mail - 872 Maitland Ave, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701
Friday, March 13th (1:15pm)
As many of you have already heard, Orlando now has multiple confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the opportunity for containment has passed. The mayors of the City of Orlando and Orange County have recommended that any gathering over 250 people should cease for the good of public health. This whole event grieves us on many levels, but we agree that gatherings like ours do pose a public health risk and we want to do anything within our power to love our neighbors well.
Because our services average more than 250, we have decided to heed our authorities’ recommendation and temporarily cease all of our public gatherings.
We have no plans to live stream a service this Sunday and next week we will make decisions about future Sundays. All events and Bible studies held in our facilities will cease until we know more about how this virus spreads throughout Orlando. We are also cancelling our church picnic in Maitland Park next Sunday. Community Groups can continue to meet at the discretion of the group leader. Please follow CDC guidelines and best practices when meeting with other people.
In times like this, we want to maintain calm and make loving decisions that contribute to human flourishing. We serve a God who has authority over the largest and smallest things in this universe and we know the hope of Jesus Christ transcends any circumstance. Now is our opportunity to display this.
We also know that this event will have serious economic impacts on many and we are looking for ways we can help those who are hurting. Please make wise decisions, especially if you have been identified by the CDC as at higher risk. Please keep those affected in your prayers and if you have any needs during this time, please contact our church office by phone (407) 660-1984 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
